AG Myers Appointed Chair of National Consumer Protection Committee

Myers selected for the National Association of Attorneys General committee for his leadership on consumer protection issues

Portland— Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers has been appointed chair of the National Association of Attorneys General’s Consumer Protection Committee, which explores ways of protecting consumers from market manipulation, anticompetitive conduct, and other illegality in the marketplace.

Myers was selected for the NAAG consumer protection chairmanship because of his national leadership in safeguarding American consumers. Among his most significant accomplishments is participating in the recovery of over one billion dollars from the pharmaceutical industry for deceptive marketing and anticompetitive conduct that has driven up the cost of prescription drugs. Myers also participated in a historic tobacco settlement in 2000, which secured billions of dollars for restitution, healthcare, and anti-smoking education.

“Hardy has been a real leader for us on a whole range of consumer protection issues.  He was the obvious choice as Chair the Consumer Protection Committee,” said NAAG President William Sorrell, Attorney General of Vermont. “Attorneys General from around the country know and admire Hardy for his persistence in protecting consumers both in Oregon and nationally.”

“This appointment is an honor and a privilege,” Myers said, “but we have much work ahead for the people of Oregon and consumers nationally. I look forward to continuing my work with other Attorneys General across the country, and bringing lessons from our work together home to serve the people of Oregon.”
